UK TO ACT ON GROWING PORN PANDEMIC

In response to the growing international problem of online pornography, UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced that public Wi-Fi and most households will start having filters automatically in place starting in 2014. Households can request these filters be turned off if they choose. Cameron said in his speech, “This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence.”

Cable and Internet providers in the United States could follow suit without any government action. By automatically providing filters, which customers could then turn off if they chose, children would be protected from harmful content. Many parents do not realize the extensive access to pornography that their children have.

When the average child views pornography for the first time at age 11 or earlier, it is necessary for parents to take action. Until the time when children can safely go on the Internet or watch TV without stumbling across hardcore pornography, we encourage parents to add filters and protect their families from pornography.
