Washington, DC (June 16, 2021) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) applauds the U.S. House for passing the Debt Bondage Repair Act (H.R. 2332), to help the victims of human trafficking recover from the financial harm inflicted by traffickers.

“We are grateful to Rep. Patrick McHenry for his leadership in crafting this common-sense solution to provide financial relief to victims of human trafficking. The bill prevents adverse credit reporting of incidents which occurred while victims were being trafficked, allowing survivors to put the past behind them and get a fresh start in life,” said Dawn Hawkins, CEO of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The bill was inspired by March testimony given to the House Financial Services Committee by Rev. Dr. Marian Hatcher, US representative of SPACE International. One car loan trapped Hatcher, a sex trafficking survivor, in long-term servitude, slowing her ability to live a normal, constructive life.

The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate for passage.
