Pornography Leading To Many Child Victims

Washington, DC (September 4, 2012) – The Democratic Party is being urged by the War on Illegal Pornography coalition to change its platform to protect children and families from harms of obscene adult pornography

“It’s time for the Democratic Party to take a major step to protect children and families from the scourge pornography,” said Patrick Trueman, director of the War on Illegal Pornography and President of Morality in Media of Washington, DC. He explained that children are often pornography’s victims. “American children are awash in hardcore pornography that is now so prevalent on computers, on smart phones, tablets, and on cable and satellite TV. Sexual predators who are consumers of obscene pornography are targeting America’s children. Family breakups due to pornography addiction of one parent is also making children the victims of pornography,” he added.

“Adding a plank to the Democratic Platform promising vigorous enforcement of federal pornography laws will send a strong and unmistakable message to the illegal porn industry that kids and families come first for the Democratic Party,” Trueman said.

Trueman noted that current federal obscenity laws prohibit distribution of hardcore, obscene pornography on the Internet, on hotel/motel TV, on cable/satellite TV, and in retail shops.

America is suffering an untreated pandemic of harm from pornography. According to many studies, children and adults are developing life-long addictions to pornography; American children begin consuming hardcore pornography at an average age of 11 and act out what they see on siblings, neighbors, and friends; four out of five 16 year-olds regularly access pornography online; growing numbers of men in their twenties are developing “porn-induced sexual dysfunction;” girls consuming pornography are several times more likely to engage in group sex than those who do not; 56% of divorces now cite Internet pornography as a factor in the breakup of the marriage.
