Opposition to sex trafficking is almost universal. People don’t think anyone should be forced into sexual acts for another’s gratification. Yet, this form of slavery is widespread, even in Western nations.

I have just returned from Washington, D.C. where Morality in Media’s new president Pat Trueman and assistant Dawn Hawkins gathered anti-pornography leaders from all over the country for the first time in 27 years. They have ignited a fire in anti-pornography fighters and have achieved outstanding successes this year.
Morality in Media’s newest project – stoptraffickingdemand.com – is a website dedicated to exposing the links between pornography and sex trafficking. We hope it becomes a place for individuals affected by this societal plague to share their stories and educate others in order to stop the demand for prostituted women and children.

Why, then, is telecommunications giant Verizon providing an outlet for the products of the modern-day slavery of sex trafficking?

The site will bring together research, expert testimony and personal accounts to help the public understand that there is a seamless connection between both forms of exploitation.

Houston Mayor, Anise Parker, made a deal with 16 major strip clubs in the name of fighting sex trafficking. In exchange for $1 million from the clubs to fight sex trafficking, Parker will allow sexual contact with strippers at the clubs including lap dances, a form of prostitution.
When we think about human trafficking – if we think about human trafficking – we usually think about it in the way it’s portrayed in films like “Taken”: something that happens in other countries, perhaps in Europe, and not in America. Something that involves a forceful kidnapping.
