WASHINGTON, DC (November 22, 2024) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) commended members of the Texas State Senate for enacting and defending H.B. 1181, which protects children from accessing harmful online pornography by requiring age verification for pornography websites. The NCOSE Law Center filed an Amicus Brief on behalf of 15 members of the Texas State Senate in a legal challenge that will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 15, 2025.

“The evidence is clear: pornography is devastatingly harmful to children. Texas has taken commonsense steps to protect children from easily accessing pornography online. Children in Texas and across the country deserve to be protected from the life-altering harms that can arise from being exposed to pornography,” said Peter Gentala, senior legal counsel, National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The Amicus Brief details the broad scholarly evidence of the harms of pornography for children, including evidence that pornography is associated with wide-ranging attitudinal and behavioral harms.
