NCOSE Calls on Speaker Johnson to Ensure ‘Kids Online Safety Act’ Becomes Law in 2024

WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2024) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) called on U.S. House leadership to include the Kids Online Safety Act in an end-of-year legislative package.

“Big Tech has failed our children – the industry has left them vulnerable to the most extreme harms – powerful algorithms that deliver death-inducing challenges, sextortion, connections with drug dealers, eating disorder content, and more. Without the Kids Online Safety Act, our children remain vulnerable,” said Dawn Hawkins, CEO, National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

“Congress must protect kids, not Big Tech. Why are House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Whip Steve Scalise ignoring 32 Attorneys General who say KOSA is constitutional? Why are they ignoring Elon Musk’s lawyers who say it does nothing to undermine free speech?” asked Hawkins.

The Wall Street Journal revealed that Meta and Apple have spent almost $90 million to lobby against crucial child protection bills such as KOSA in the last three years.
