Paper demonstrates porn damages relationships
Washington, DC – A new research study concludes pornography negatively impacts “men’s expectations and behaviors during sexual encounters.” Researchers Chyng Sun, Ana Bridges, Jennifer Johnson, and Matt Ezzell surveyed 487 American college men, aged 18–29, in order to understand the role pornography plays in real-world sexual encounters between heterosexual men and women. The paper, “Pornography and the Male Sexual Script: An Analysis of Consumption and Sexual Relations,” was published in the December 2014 issue of Archives of Sexual Behavior.
“The damaging psychological affects of pornography are now rampant in our society, as this new study indicates” said Patrick A. Trueman, President of Morality in Media. “We have a public health crisis on our hands caused by widespread pornography consumption, and it is urgent that government and society address it,” he added.
The researchers found that pornography alters the sexual template of men, negatively influencing their expectations in the real world. They were able to conclude that the younger the age at which men were first exposed to pornography, the higher their current use of pornography. The study established that men who view high rates of pornography are more likely to rely on it to become and remain sexually excited, and are more likely to integrate pornography in sexual activities with a real person. The researchers were also able to conclude that pornography consumption relates to decreased enjoyment of sex with a real partner.
