Washington, DC (June 30, 2020) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) is recommending that Congress pass the EARN IT Act, which will establish a National Commission on Online Child Exploitation Prevention to “develop recommended best practices for providers of interactive computer services regarding the prevention of online child exploitation misconduct.” EARN IT will be voted on in the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 2.
“EARN IT will hold Big Tech accountable for using best business practices in order to reduce the grooming, recruiting, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse of children online – a much-needed solution in the fight to protect children,” said Patrick A. Trueman, president and CEO of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.
“While Big Tech argues against more accountability, we know that by creating a commission of experts, the right balance between privacy protection and child protection can be found. We urge the Senate Judiciary to pass this out of committee and onto the Senate for a full vote.”
