Supporters of Texas Age Verification Law to Hold Jan. 14 Briefing Ahead of SCOTUS Hearing (FSC v. Paxton)

NCOSE Press Statement logo

WHAT: Supporters of the Texas age verification law that protects children from accessing online pornography will hold a briefing ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court Jan. 15 hearing of oral arguments in the pornography industry’s challenge to this commonsense law (FSC v. Paxton). The pornography industry is fighting to maintain children’s unrestricted access to online pornography.

Legal experts, child protection advocates, researchers, and lived experience experts will discuss the legal aspects of the case before the Supreme Court, how children are harmed by pornography exposure, and why age verification is one of several necessary layers of online protections for children.

Online pornography is a powerful visual stimulus that is disruptive to children’s development contributing to numerous harms including vulnerability to sexual victimization, child-on-child harmful sexual behaviors, high-risk sexual behaviors, and compulsive sexual behaviors.

This is the most significant case to come before the Supreme Court on the issue of pornography in 20 years. The Court’s decision will lay the foundation, either for good or for ill, for protecting future generations from exposure to online pornography.
