WHAT: Dawn Hawkins, senior advisor to the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), will testify before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, about online harms to children in a hearing titled, The World Wild Web: Examining the Harms Online.
Ms. Hawkins has called out corporate entities facilitating exploitation via NCOSE’s annual Dirty Dozen List, fostered a broad international coalition of 600+ organizations, and constantly advocates for survivors. Her work has sparked change at Google, Hilton Worldwide, Comcast, Walmart, the Department of Defense, Instagram, TikTok, and more.
Ms. Hawkins recently coauthored a Deseret News op-ed about how App stores are exploiting children; the Utah state legislature responded and passed the App Store Accountability Act to mitigate those harms. Hawkins has also advocated for the TAKE IT DOWN Act, criminalizing image-based sexual abuse and AI-generated deepfakes, and the Kids Online Safety Act, which offers online child protection by mandating a “duty of care.”
