To the Editor:
Imagine my surprise and shock when I hit the Google button on my computer and the words, “View pornography for free” stared back at me. Wow. I froze for a moment asking myself, “Where did that come from?” and then hit the button to close off. How many other people have had this experience? How many of our precious children have innocently come upon this.
Now, do you believe me when I tell you that pornography is at our fingertips on a daily basis? So what are we going to do about it?
Morality in Media is a brave and hardworking organization that was formed by four Christian men back in 1962, when fourth-graders brought pornographic materials to school. Not much has changed as the pornography organization is working overtime to put this filth in front of us whether we like it or not. Also, in two nearby counties this year, children have been caught bringing pornography to school. So the fact is pornography is on our doorstep right now.
It’s time to fight back. Here’s what you and I can do:
- There are corporations and TV programs that are involved in this sleazy business. Write to the companies and sponsors of programs with objectionable content and complain, stating that they must stop providing this type of material and calling it entertainment.
- Support the Morality in Media operations. Your dollars will enable them to reach our lawmakers in Congress, who can write laws to protect us from this scourge to our society. Morality in Media can be reached by calling 202-393-7245, or by writing Morality in Media, 110 G St., Washington D.C, 20005, or contact them through their website, pornharms.com.
- There are laws against pornography and we must insist they be enforced. Our most recent attorney general, Eric Holder, failed to prosecute even one obscenity case, even though the U.S. Supreme Court has routinely upheld the law. Talk to your legislators about a way to deal with this problem.
- Talk to family and friends about the danger to our families, community and our churches if pornography is not dealt with by those who have the power to do so.
Let us all work to protect our families from this scourge.
