At the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, we work tirelessly to end sexual exploitation and to expose the connections between all forms of sexual exploitation. But nothing we can say can move hearts or inspire concrete action like Tom Jones’ heart-wrenching but triumphant testimony given at our national symposium here in our nation’s Capital.
Tom was a childhood victim of sex trafficking — at the hands of his own father — for almost a decade. One of his adult male abusers was so violent, and took such pleasure in torturing Tom, that Tom dubbed him, “The Strangler.”
Today, after an incredible journey through life, joining the military, and seeking counseling, Tom is healed. He is a loving husband and father, and helps other victims like himself find healing. Because boys and men who are victims feel virtually voiceless today and have almost no resources available to them.
Tom’s testimony at our historic symposium shed light on the sexual exploitation of boys and men — and his story was met with tear filled eyes and boisterous applause. The event, “Out of the Shadows: Addressing the Sexual Exploitation of Boys and Men” was not only our first event highlighting the trafficking and sexual exploitation of boys, but it is the first national event held on the topic discussing the web of exploitation facing many males today. Hundreds of thousands of boys suffer sexual exploitation and so many are trapped. We are here to help them – YOU and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.
