The NCOSE Law Center is Paving the Way for Justice for Survivors

By:

The NCOSE Law Center has made incredible moves in the past year on behalf of survivor plaintiffs by filing five lawsuits—and assisting with several more—against companies and entities that facilitated and profited from their sexual abuse and exploitation.

Taking down a multibillion-dollar entity like the commercial sex industry is no easy feat. But the NCOSE Law Center is equipped with the best and brightest legal team, and they are standing toe-to-toe against pornographers, sex traffickers, and profiteers in order to see justice served.

The NCOSE Law Center is creating and spearheading a legal strategy that strives to bring about an end to the internet pornography industry as we know it within the next decade, and this strategy is being executed by giants in the legal advocacy arena.

Lisa Haba of The Haba Law Firm presented Dani Pinter, Senior Legal Counsel for the NCOSE Law Center, with the Central Florida Polaris Star Award for Legal Advocate Leader of the Year

The Legal Advocate Leader of the Year award was named after the Polaris Star—also known as the North Star—which is the star used by slaves when finding their way north to freedom along the Underground Railroad. This award is given to the modern-day abolitionists in the community who are leading the fight against human trafficking in their profession and/or sphere of influence.

For the phenomenal work she has contributed to combating sexual abuse and exploitation, Dani Pinter, Senior Legal Counsel for the NCOSE Law Center, was awarded the 2021 Polaris Star Award for Legal Advocate Leader of the Year.

What did that work entail? Here are highlights from the NCOSE Law Center’s efforts in 2021:

  • The NCOSE Law Center, along with an accomplished assembly of survivor-focused and commercial litigation law firms, filed the first groundbreaking class-action lawsuit against MindGeek on behalf of two survivors of online sexual exploitation.
  • The NCOSE Law Center, together with five other survivor-focused and commercial litigation law firms, filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against XVideos and its parent company, WebGroup Czech Republic, for trafficking a young woman who was a victim of child sexual abuse material and sex trafficking.
  • The NCOSE Law Center filed a trailblazing lawsuit against Twitter for its complicity in sex trafficking by knowing about and profiting from child sexual abuse material of two young boys. In August 2021, a federal judge allowed the lawsuit to move forward which was the first time a lawsuit of its kind against Twitter has advanced past their motion to dismiss.
  • The NCOSE Law Center, along with Jason Guinasso, an attorney with Hutchinson & Steffan, PLLC, filed a historic lawsuit against Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and other associated leadership and businesses on behalf of two plaintiffs who were sex trafficked in Nevada and are seeking to hold the defendants responsible for protecting the sex trade and enabling sex slavery in violation of the 13th Amendment. The only solution to the deadly serious sexual abuse and exploitation in Nevada is to shrink the commercial sex trade and not allow it to continue to grow and expand as the Nevada’s current policies do.

We are creating a movement of lawsuits that is holding profiteers accountable while securing justice for survivors!

In 2022 and beyond, we will continue our work standing up for survivors, advocating for policies and legislation that put people over profits, and helping shift the focus of the movement to demand reduction in order to combat the most difficult problems of trafficking and abuse.

We are deeply proud of Dani Pinter and the entire NCOSE Law Center team and for the way their excellent and precedent-setting work is paving the way in the courts and legislatures!
