WASHINGTON, DC (July 13, 2022) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) supports the Speak Out Act (HR 8227) and the Stop Human Trafficking in School Zones Act (HR 7566) and urged Congress to pass both bills.
The Speak Out Act is designed to minimize pressure on victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment to sign non-disclosure agreements that bar them from judicial remedy. “For the first time, victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault will not be silenced by non-disclosure agreements, which provide cover for harassers and sexual abusers. This will enable victims to pursue legal action,” said Dawn Hawkins, CEO of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.
The Stop Human Trafficking in School Zones Act will increase penalties for human trafficking in a school zone. “Our children deserve the utmost protection from those who would exploit them,” Hawkins said.
