MIM Calls For Federal Investigation of ICM Registry and All Involved in .PORN and .XXX domains

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 5, 2013) – Following news that the .PORN domain was approved by the governing board of the Internet (ICANN) on August 2, MIM called for an investigation. Attorney General Eric Holder needs to investigate the ICM Registry, the company behind the XXX domain and proposed porn domains .PORN, .SEX and .ADULT, for violations of federal laws that prohibit the distribution of hard-core and obscene Internet pornography.

“Title 18 United States Code Sections 1462 and 1465 prohibit distribution of hard-core, obscene Internet pornography. Yet, isn’t that the purpose of the .XXX and .PORN domains?” asked Patrick A. Trueman, President of Morality in Media and former chief of the U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Criminal Division in Washington, D.C. “U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, should review the activities of ICM Registry in relation to these federal criminal laws immediately,” said Trueman.

Internet pornography is causing a pandemic of harm such as addiction, divorce, and other grave social costs which are documented at http://www.PornHarmsResearch.com.

“Will Attorney General Holder stand by and watch this pandemic of harm continue to spiral when he has laws at his disposal that can be enforced against this destructive material? We take this opportunity to urge him to vigorously enforce federal obscenity laws against major online commercial distributors of hard-core adult pornography and those who aid and abet its distribution,” added Trueman.

The establishment of a .PORN domain will increase, not decrease the spread of Internet pornography, just as the establishment of .XXX has already done. The .XXX Domain advocates said these domains would solve the Internet’s porn problem with pornography companies leaving the .COM Domain and relocating on .XXX, making the rest of the Internet porn-free. But Porn companies did not give up their .COM sites and instead opened additional sites.

In addition to the increased amount and deviant nature of pornography that will now be available, ICM Registry stands to make untold millions from the defensive registration of .PORN domains by Non-porn companies. Schools, bloggers, and individuals will be scammed into buying “protection” on each new porn registry in order to safeguard their good name.”
