NCOSE Calls out X (formerly Twitter) for Sexually Exploiting Women and Generating CSAM

WASHINGTON, DC (January 2, 2026) – The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) has called out X (formerly Twitter) for normalizing the sexual exploitation of women with its new feature allowing pictures of real women to be undressed without their consent. This follows on the heels of X’s Grok apparently generating virtual child sexual abuse material, for which Grok issued an apology.

“New year, same Big Tech playbook. X is further normalizing the sexual exploitation of women with Grok’s new feature allowing pictures of real women to be undressed without their consent. This is an egregious violation of women’s privacy and safety,” said Dani Pinter, Chief Legal Officer and Director of the Law Center for the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

“Additionally, Grok’s meager ‘apology’ tweet for reportedly generating virtual child sexual abuse material is an abysmal reaction to a serious, criminal act. This was an entirely predictable and avoidable atrocity as Business Insider reported in September that the xAI model was being trained on user requests for CSAM and child exploitation themed content. Had X rigorously culled such content from its training models then and banned users requesting illegal content, this would not have happened. Instead, per the Big Tech playbook, X knowingly let its product be used for child exploitation and then submitted a lame PR apology afterwards.

“NCOSE previously called out xAI’s chatbot that engaged in describing itself as a child and being sexually aroused by being choked, as it raised concerns over the extent it will go to in engaging in and normalizing harmful themes.

“X’s actions are another example of why we need safeguards for AI products. Big Tech cannot be trusted to curb serious child exploitation issues it knows about within its own products. We implore X to take these issues seriously and commit actual resources to stop Grok’s child exploitation problems, and to stop enabling the sexual exploitation of women.

“Our country’s leaders and laws must prioritize protecting people over products. Our lawmakers must pass reasonable AI regulations to ensure these products are developed and implemented safely,” Pinter said.
