Another Pornhub Distribution Partner Cuts Ties

PORNHUB DISAPPEARS FROM INSTAGRAM!

Instagram is the latest to cut ties with Pornhub! Over the years, Instagram has pushed millions of visitors, including children, over to Pornhub’s website which is rife with criminality.

There are now hundreds of survivors, many lawsuits, and in-depth investigative pieces detailing how Pornhub hosts child sexual abuse material, filmed rape and sex trafficking, and other non-consensually recorded or shared material. Despite years of mounting public pressure, this site and others like it still refuse to ensure that all of those depicted in explicit videos they profit from are adults or are consenting.

Mainstream corporations have largely enabled this abuse to continue by partnering with Pornhub and sometimes even profiting from this abuse material. This is why The National Center on Sexual ExploitationCollective ShoutDefend DignityCourtney’s House, and Justice Defense Fund have led a global coalition of hundreds of organizations to demand companies cease such partnerships.

We have focused on mainstream companies who partner with Pornhub and its parent company, MindGeek, focusing on advertisers, distribution partners, consumer services, and technology support platforms. As a result, many companies have now cut ties, including MastercardVisa, and all major credit cards, as well as advertisers WishUnilever, and Kraft-HeinzInstagram joins Roku and Comcast as the latest distribution outlets to remove Pornhub.

We are grateful that Instagram has heard the voices of sexual abuse survivors who have been personally harmed by Pornhub’s insatiable appetite for profit.

Pornhub shared with its over 13 million Instagram followers sexually graphic content, directly promoted pornography, and featured videos like ‘Next Career Goal’ encouraging its Instagram audience (which includes children) to become a pornography performer.

Instagram had even granted Pornhub the coveted ‘blue check’ of verification, essentially a stamp of approval, despite strong evidence of illegal activity against children and adults.

Instagram is now courageously choosing to stop partnering with Pornhub and it is time for all corporate entities to follow its example.

Our global coalition of advocates has sent letters, emails, and participated in meetings with Instagram. The Senate Commerce Committee was alerted to Instagram’s partnership with Pornhub and similar websites during recent congressional hearings. Thousands of survivors and citizens have signed letters, petitions, and have sent emails to Instagram and other mainstream corporations partnering with Pornhub. Many lawsuits have been filed against Pornhub and recently, a judge ruled that a lawsuit against Visa for profiting from sex trafficking through business with Pornhub could move forward. Investigative news pieces like this in New York Times or in The New Yorker have shed further light on the abuses currently inherent to the pornography tube websites. All of this has helped to bring more of a spotlight to the companies enabling Pornhub to operate with impunity.
